Fanfic Meme

I did this meme ages ago and never posted it...

Do you read or write fanfiction? Both. Not so much reading nowadays though.

When did you first start reading/writing fanfiction? About 13 years ago, though my writing output was minute then.

What was your first fandom? ST:TNG or was it Blakes Seven?

First ship? Han/Leia. So what? I liked them.

What website do you use most? LJ without a doubt.

What do you think of Fanfiction.net? It serves its purpose.

What fandoms have you written in? BtVS/AtS, LoTR, an unfinished Blake’s Seven story which I've lost so don't ask.

Pairings? Spike/Buffy, Spike/Illyria, Spike/Tara, Spike/Drusilla, Spike/Harmony, Willow/Tara.

Any fandoms you would like to write in? Robin of Sherwood, but all that research for a tiny audience seems pointless, might as well write about Drogyn. Poor lovely Drogyn.

Do reviews affect how you write in any way? Not really, but the lack of them can get me down and put me off for a bit. I have post-chapter depression issues.

Do you use a beta? Yes, three. hesadevil, calove and gamiila. They're all stars!

What ratings do you read/write? PG-13 mostly, occasionally R. A couple of NC-17.

What warnings have you used on your fiction/read? Character death. :)

Do you have any squicks? Buffy/Angel, Connor. Slash. RPS.

Do you Role-play online? Not as such.

If so, what? There's a certain God King in my brain...

Have you ever stolen something from another person's work? No! That would be wrong.

Favorite fandom to write/read? BtVS/AtS

Favorite pairing? Spike/Buffy.

Favorite writer/writers? I do, but it would be unfair to name names.

How long should a chapter be? 2500. Meaty chucks. Ahem.

Do you write/read drabbles? I like writing them, but a friends list full of them gets on my nerves.

Any fandoms you avoid? LoTR or anything else based on a book. It should be a crime. Er... My LOTR fic was a parody I tell you!

Pairings you avoid? Any slash, Spike/Willow, Spike/Faith, Spike/Joyce, anything else without Spike.

Warnings you avoid? Slash. PWP.

Do the number of reviews tell how good a story is? Absolutely not. Fanfic is a popularity contest and a marketing game (one I’m crap at). You don’t measure quality by popularity alone, have you seen the Singles Chart?

What do you think of Mary Sues? I think you learn from that mistake.

Have you ever flamed someone? Not on purpose.

Have you ever been flamed? Singed maybe, flamed no.

To make it a little more interesting, if anyone has a burning desire to ask me anything about my fanfic or my reading habits, feel free. Or even add your own opinions, discussions whoo!

This was really interesting. I learned a lot about you. :)

Nothing negative. I loved Han and Leia, too. I really admired the way you put your thoughts about comments/feedback into words - I feel the same way. We avoid the same pairings. I've read two slash fics, and it was because they were written by good friends. Slash just isn't my thing, either.

I just found similarities between us that I didn't know were there.

Oh. Well that's good!

Han and Leia are a guilty pleasure, but I've completely failed to find any decent fic. I'm a pretty conventional shipper at heart, tenacles aside.

That you have the extreme good taste to enjoy Robin of Sherwood (oh, Michael Praed in a fic......sigh Likes Jason Connery too, but Michael WAS Robin...and let's talk Nasir!). I'd read. My video tapes are no longer watchable and the DVD's aren't for our region in the US (And the bloody wankers say they won't be released for the US...I am going to invest in a multi region DVD player solely for this wonderful series).

Kathleen

I love Robin of Sherwood and it was probably the first show I was obsessed with. I have the DVD's for the Michael Pread era and they stand up well. I'm not so keen on Jason Connery, but I don't think the production values of the series as a whole were as good.

As for fic, I do want to write one, but I wouldn't hold my breath as it'd be an epic. (I have written the first paragraph though...)

You wanna talk Nasir? I had an archery teacher who was his spitting image.

Oh baby could that boy do the double sword thing....sigh.....

I still cry when Robin dies even knowing it's coming. Damn Dynasty stealing Michael away for that drek!

I forced every friend I had to watch every episode in a marathon weekend once! Converted them all. LOVE the show.

Kathleen
hum....Spike goes back in time and Marian has to choose between Spike and Robin ...(If it's the Jason version, no contest, otherwise how about a threesome???)

I wasn't intending... Shock! Horror! to put Spike in it.

It would be classic Michael Praed Robin. I have an inkling of a story and it would, of course, be based on black magic because that's my type of thing, and have Herne in it and Sir Guy because he was my favourite.

I had to love Guy too (such a Xander really)! I felt so proud of him art the end there.

Yes, Herne must be there (and any other of the Celtic gods and myths).

Humiliate the Sherriff also, that's always the way to go.

I loved Will Scarlett too (one of my favorite lines of his is on the castles roof in answer to "friend or foe" when her replied, "Friend", killed the soldier and continued with, "But not YOUR friend.").

Wonderfully woven stories IMHO. My motto has been "Nothing is forgotten, nothing is ever forgotten" for nearly the last 20 years thanks to that show.

Kathleen

I can't say I've ever compared Guy and Xander.

I loved Will. Ray Winstone will always be Will to me, whoever he plays now.

They were great stories. Richard Carpenter had a wonderful feel for the period.

Word.

Something has to explain the popularity of boy bands, and it isn't discerning eardrums.

If you wrote Robin of Sherwood fanfic I'd read it! As long as you kept tentacles to a minimum, that is.

Tentacles belong strictly to Illyria don't worry, unless I do a crossover...

an unfinished Blake’s Seven story which I've lost so don't ask.

Tarnation.

I don't really do chapters, but I can so relate to the sentiment. I thought I was writing just for me and would share with everyone else. Now, if I post something and get absolutely no comments on it...depression issues covers it well.

(BTW, I didn't comment on the last fic not because I didn't love it, I did. I just had to print it and take it home to read and then forgot to go back and tell you how wonderful it/you was/are.)

Yeah, that's it. It's completely the wrong attitude, I know, but I've come to expect a certain amount of reviews. If I don't get them it can get me down. It usually isn't a problem but the WIP does really badly sometimes, and because i've put so much into it, it puts me off writing more. For couple of weeks anyway and then I get back to it.

Hee. no worries I do that all the time. I did wonder if you'd seen it, what with the babies and all.

I did wonder if you'd seen it
Yeah. I just decided it was something I probably shouldn't read at work, and I just don't get on that much at home, so I couldn't comment when I read it. I loved Spike being all fatherly and protective and Illyria pregnant. (And Angel is just a smuck, but you captured that perfectly.)

because i've put so much into it, it puts me off writing more
One of the last things I posted (the BSG/SG1 cross-over thing) I did more research for and put more time into than anything else I've written. And I didn't receive a single comment on it. [sigh] But the hubby did read it and say it was pretty good, in character and plausible. Since he usually refuses to read what I write I should be more grateful for that than any amount of comments...but there is something about hearing from your peers.

I wrote it at work, it's amazing what you can get away with. :)

Maybe your audience is wrong. I don't know either show, so can't really follow the fic.

I get away with alot more than I should, and I will write almost anything at work...but I do tend to be a bit more careful with what I read.

Maybe your audience is wrong.
Apparently so. I thought I had found a good community for it, but it doesn't seem to be that active. Maybe I'll find it someday...

I don't know either show, so can't really follow the fic.
I know. I wasn't planning to go all fangirl over it like I have, but then I guess you don't really plan the whole fangirl thing.

I've nearly been caught so many times, I have no idea what they think I'm writing. My old boss used to know what I did, she'd even been to my website. But that was pre-tentacle days...

I find if you resist they fangirl thing it just gets worse.

Do you tell many real-life people about writing? Two people know I'm writing at the moment but I would sooner chew my leg off than let them read it...

Some. I have a long time rep for writing from school, so a lot of friends know. One of my friends read the first tentacle fic.

I told my boss at my job interview actually, as my website was kind of relevant. Luckily she was quite young and liked Buffy. I'm not sure I'd have confessed that to a man or an older woman!

My parents know too, but I have no desire for them to read any.
